Sometimes life can hurl difficulties our way, leaving us feeling rather tired, troubled, and conflicted, at other times our thoughts and feelings may seem out of balance, to the event that triggered them or do not seem to begin from anything specific at all.
How can therapy help - Talking therapies are confidential and provide you with extra emotional support so that you are not left struggling to cope on by yourself. Therapy can also help us to feel unburdened and we can gain insight into our concerns, when dealing with challenging circumstances or just managing day to day life in general.
About me : I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist & Counsellor. I am also the Clinical Director and the Founder of Petals Counselling and Psychotherapy. Prior to setting up Petals Counselling and Psychotherapy, I have acquired a wide range of experience, working with varied (general & complex) patient concerns in therapeutic settings, some of these settings, have included NHS primary care, private care and third-sector care services; whilst I work with most areas of psychological and emotional health, my areas of expertise lie in treating anxiety, depression, traumata, perinatal and reproductive difficulties.
How I can help - I work with a wide range of clients/patients within the NHS with diverse clinical concerns ( both complex and general ) treating emotional and psychological presentations for those who need emotional support to those who suffer quite acutely, having endured traumatic experiences and are fairly distressed as a result. I divide my time between working in private practice and the NHS.
I offer one-to-one counselling/psychotherapy on either a short or long term basis.
I can help with anxiety, depression, or general life stressors which can be associated with illness or ageing, life transitions, career changes, health anxieties/concerns, fertility/infertility, bereavements/loss, trauma, sleep issues, difficulties at work, cultural dynamics and relationship difficulties to name a few. Some clients have not encountered such difficulties in the past, others have and attend, as they are conscious of repeating old patterns that do not benefit them or have bothered them for a while. In these circumstances there might be issues of perfectionism, fears of failure/criticism, lack of acceptance, being isolated, not loved or abandoned.
My Approach - I work predominantly with the psychodynamic approach, which involves working towards understanding how past events have impacted on your relationships and life choices. This approach helps me gain more insight in order to help you at a deeper in-depth level. The psychodynamic approach has shown, that over time the benefits increase and clients report to feeling more content. I offer you a supportive space, for you to share what is troubling you, whatever the nature or extent of your difficulties.
Initial Consultation- Prior to starting any therapy, you and I would have an initial consultation, this meeting would allow us to get to know each other better and establish what has brought you to therapy and if I can help you, this is also an opportunity for you to explore your needs and ask any questions you may have without any obligation to continue.
Professional Registrations - I am a professional registrant of BPC, the British Psychoanalytic Council, BACP - the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, APP- Association for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and BAATN, the Black, African, Asian Therapy Network. I am also a Senior Associate Member for APPCIOS, the Association for Psychodynamic Practice and Counselling in Organizational Settings.
