I graduated from Birkbeck with an MSc Psychology, achieving distinction overall as well as for my research project based on the genetic basis of anxiety, depression, and loneliness in relation to neuroticism. I have been immersing myself in the literature around personal transformation, habits, productivity, self-directed CBT for many years. Now I am on my journey to qualify in the fields of counselling and psychotherapy.
As a therapist my interests span from the practical, grounding nature of CBT techniques, to the expansive exploration of narrative such as through schema therapy, humanistic, biographical and psychotherapy approaches. Areas of interest include anxiety, self-esteem, issues with motivation/procrastination, and limiting self-beliefs. I am keen to explore the synergistic relationship between therapy and coaching. I believe being able to travel through multiple layers of meaning and depth is a powerful and flexible way of working through problems and connecting with your ideals. Talk without action is just talk, but behaviour without meaning has no destination. Many counselling and coaching approaches have one thing in common: the client is the source of truth and solutions to their own problems. I believe in taking this approach with some light guidance where appropriate, but ultimately relying on a clients self-knowledge and intuition, matched with a willingness to experiment and persist with positive habits.
I am aiming to support people that face mental health issues and give back using the counselling training I have had to date. . Over an entire summer I was a Camp Counsellor in the US via “Camp America” where I worked for a camp that specialised in autism, learning differences, social communication disorders and ADHD. Being with these children and young adults for a whole summer, many of who came from religious backgrounds, made me appreciate both the richness of their experiences and the complexity of their challenges. I can see how I could contribute again to those communities now and in the future. I have also been a Team Leader within the charity space to guide activities aimed at building trust among young people. This was specifically for children and adolescents from underprivileged backgrounds
As a dual-national and member of the LGB community, I am comfortable discussing issues around sexuality, belonging, race, and living through cultures that may be hostile to you because of who you are. Affirming yourself and your value is key here, as well as self-awareness. Western life today is mentally divisive, and whichever side of the political, sociological, or cultural persuasion you may be of. I think most of this is composed of clashes of communication and a opportunities that need to be taken to enhance self-awareness. The journey is not a simple one, and it can feel deeply challenging on many levels. I am hopeful that we can work forwards toward creating platforms where ideas can be expressed freely in order to enable healthy debate and influence. However, this starts from personal change first.
